The Inspiration Behind The Images – Cornwall Art Fair 2017

Cornwall Art Fair 2017 is fast approaching (26th-28th May in the Guildhall, St Ives, Cornwall).  The fair is a free event so please come and have a look around if you are in Cornwall over bank holiday weekend.  The fair runs Friday to Sunday (not on the monday).

I thought I’d introduce a few of the images that will be on display at the fair as well as a brief intro to the stories behind them.  Click on the tabs below for more details of a few of the images.

If you cannot make the fair the images are available to purchase in a variety of formats from this site – just hop over to the shop section for more details.

the grip, lady gripped by black arms

The Grip or ‘the hug’ as it is affectionately known is one of my most popular images. The self portrait was originally conceived as a study of human emotions and in particular the ‘grip’ that mood disorders can inflict on sufferers. Feedback I’ve received on the image suggests that people see the image in a number of different ways ranging from the dark melancholic place that originally inspired the image through to much lighter and brighter places, hence its new more popular name ‘the hug’.

The Grip has been nominated for several awards including The Societies of Photographers Photographer of The Year Award in 2014.
