This is an image I have held in my mind for about six months but I knew from day one it would be a tricky one to capture. As you can see I did eventually get brave enough to give it a go. Centre of the image is the owner of all the dogs photographed who breeds and shows Welsh Springer Spaniels. I have a personal connection with this image because one of my own Welshies is related to several of the dogs here.
Showing pet or owner in isolation seems to tell only half the story and I have long wanted to put the two together. I had met these dogs on several occasions so I knew they could be trusted in the studio. My maximum is usually two given that I work in a very small home studio space.
My old wedding dress doesn’t get much use so I thought it might be time to drag it out of the cupboard to lend a more formal feeling to the image and echo some of the paintings of yesteryear. Such paintings often showed the dogs, so precious to their owners, lying at their feet.
The GIF below shows just a tiny bit of the slightly chaotic shoot that followed. Keep scrolling for the final image. Great fun and this fairly rare breed has a special place in my heart as I am now the proud owner of two of these little ginger monsters.
The final image after some photoshop work to bring all the dogs together is below.
